By sorting like items together, I can easily see and grab the small portable bins that I need. Seeing everything I need makes it easy to change up the look from last year without having to dig through huge totes or boxes.
Last January I had a few clear bins on hand and bought a bunch more at a half price sale. Over the summer I picked up a few more so I will have all my small pieces in bins this January.
This system works for us partly because we have a full finished basement with a large storage room. I'm not sure you would be wanting to haul shoebox size bins from a remote garage if that is your storage space :)
It all looks so organized! This is something I definitely need to do since all my Christmas stuff is stored in big boxes where is hard to find what I'm looking for.
ReplyDeleteI am working on organizing my attic and I think I might use your idea of the clear plastic boxes for my Christmas stuff. I have everything in larger bins so things are mixed together. I like the idea of each box being one thing.

I did this too before we moved, and this year I have about 90% of them out of cardboard boxes and into clear bins. so much easier!
ReplyDeleteA great idea. I have boxes of stuff and should be smart and buy these clear bins and transfer it all over. It would be so much easier. These boxes are in a hall closet which is all shelves but not very well organized! Where is the cheapest place to buy these bins? Thanks for the tip!!

Great idea to put everything in clear boxes. My Christmas stuff is packed into huge Tote boxes and yes, I have to dig through it every year.
ReplyDeleteThat was such a good idea to organize your items that way. I still have mine in corrugated boxes and most of them aren't even labeled. So, you can imagine the work it has been to go through them to find things. I think I need to improve my system so it will be easier next year. Thanks for the inspiration!

I have to climb over and through mountains of stuff to get to the Christmas boxes, and then try to find what I want for this year amidst all the unmarked boxes. ReplyDeleteWhy did i never think of this. Ours are in cardboard boxes, but it is all or nothing when it comes to decorating because you can't find anything in them. Did you just use those cheap shoe box sized bins? I so need to do this.
