This is going to be a pretty low budget makeover and I will be working on it as time and money allows. (For lighting purposes I am sharing the pillow in our living room today.)

I have been collecting inspiration on my Pinterest board, Basement Guest Suite- Rustic Lake Style. Some of the elements I am inspired by are the light walls, denim and white fabrics, rustic woods and leather. I will most likely add pops of my favourite turquoises and some red. Without being too themed I hope the space has the feel of a rustic lakeside retreat.

The flag pillows in the inspiration photos inspired me to make my own Canada flag pillow using a stiff drop cloth-like fabric, red craft paint, fabric medium and a home made stencil. I used one long piece of fabric and after the paint dried fully, I sewed a simple envelope back pillow.
We have too many other bigger projects to replace the flooring or sofa in the basement this year, but the walls are going to get fresh lighter paint, the chair a slipcover, and I will paint the tv stand. For now I am enjoying my new pillow and planning the gallery wall.
